Since the Grammy Awards are celebrating their 60th awards on January 28, 2018, will they celebrate the Diamond Jubilee by giving all the winners diamond-encrusted-megaphone Grammy Awards? That would certainly raise the suspense and interest in the winners, even in the smaller categories, up a notch.
Sadly, I'm guessing the Recording Academy will not go to any such length, but we can still note the announcement of the 5 nominees for Best Children's Album.
• Brighter Side - Gustafer Yellowgold
• Feel What U Feel - Lisa Loeb
• Lemonade - Justin Roberts
• Rise Shine #Woke - Alphabet Rockers
• Songs Of Peace & Love For Kids & Parents Around The World - Ladysmith Black Mambazo
I think it's an interesting list, one that is hard to handicap. Gustafer Yellowgold and Justin Roberts have been nominated in this category before, as have Ladysmith Black Mambazo, all the way back in 1990. Ladysmith Black Mambazo is nearly Grammy royalty, with their two nominations this year bringing their total nominations to 17. (They've won 4 times previously.) It's the first Grammy nomination in more than 20 years for Loeb, but she's been on fire recently in terms of releasing music for kids, and the Alphabet Rockers album is interesting for its more explicit social commentary. There are a couple other albums I wish had made the list (and I thought had a good shot of doing so), but I think that this list is a decent representation of kids music today, at least as well as can be expected for just five albums.
