My brain tends to fog over when I read privacy policies on other websites, so my intent in writing this policy is to be as clear as possible in relatively few words. Let me know via that form to the right if you have questions or concerns.
Big picture: The advertisers and my publishing platform collects information from visitors to this site. I don't see the anonymous information collected by advertisers, and I'm only interested in the aggregated site data collected by my publishing platform.
I am currently serving ads via Lijit. You can read their privacy policy here. As that privacy policy says:
As you use the Lijit Services as a Publisher or Reader, certain information may also be collected passively (as described in this Section), including your Internet protocol (IP) address, browser type, and operating system. Lijit stores a small text file called a Cookie on your computer: (1) to store your login information, if applicable, and (2) in conjunction with the Wijit and/or Lijit Services, including when you as a Reader choose to opt out of such services (see below). Lijit may use both session Cookies (which expire once you close your web browser) and persistent Cookies (which stay on your computer until you delete them)... With respect to Readers, we collect information about the pages you view as a Reader and the search queries you submit as a Reader through technologies that do not identify you as an individual. Unless you, as a Reader, voluntarily provide us with Personal Information (such as your email address for Lijit newsletters or Lijit Alerts), we collect only Anonymous Information from you. We may also enable advertisers and ad servers to promote third party products and/or services by placing advertisements on the Lijit Services and Publisher sites. These advertisers and ad servers may use Cookies and/or "Web Beacons" (which are usually small, transparent graphic images) in order to monitor information related to served advertisements. Clicking on such advertisements will direct you to the website of a third party and the advertiser. This Privacy Policy does not cover the privacy practices of any advertisers or ad servers.
Beyond that, the Squarespace content management system I use to publish this website tracks IP addresses and webpages visited. I don't use the IP information for any reason -- I'm only interested in the aggregate information (e.g., which pages are most popular). If you submit a comment on this website, you are asked to provide an e-mail address, which is only shown to me and not visible to readers. I will never use that e-mail except in the off-chance I need to communicate with you regarding your comment.
Finally, I do solicit e-mail addresses for my newsletters. I use those addresses only for communication via e-mail and my newsletter provider, MailChimp, allows you to opt-out at any time. I will never sell or rent your address ever.
