'Round here, the civics geek inside of me would like to think that everybody celebrates February 14 as Arizona Statehood Day, but I know that it's primarily Valentine's Day just as it is in the rest of the country. Unlike the frenzy of winter holiday songs, however, the kids music community hasn't necessarily jumped in recorded a whole bunch of songs for Valentine's Day. But for those families and kids for whom that Transformers Valentine's Day tattoo just won't fit the bill, here are a few songs for you...
DidiPop might have been the first to offer up a new Valentine's Day song this year -- it's called "Happy Valentine's Day." (Note: Unlike Christmas songs, it would appear that "Valentine" is a required word in the title of Valentine's Day songs.)

The February installment of Jeremy Plays Guitar's monthly free song of the month series is, unsurprisingly, Valentine-themed. (It's even called "Valentines.") That means bows and arrows!
OK, not really. It's more about making Valentine's Day cards. Listen to or download the song here.
And, yes, there's more...
Video: "Happy Sad Silly Mad" - Jeremy Plays Guitar
Two complaints about "Happy Sad Silly Mad," the new video from Jeremy Plays Guitar's album Use Your Words:
1) the order of the emotions in the song is "happy, sad, mad, silly," not "happy, sad, silly, mad." Sheesh.
2) Also, the "mad" kids are, like, the least mad kids ever.
Other than that, I'm cool with it. "Doo, doo doo"s make everything cool.

I'm not sure that if you have kids whose antsiness mimics that of the protagonists in "Jump So High," the first video from Jeremy Plays Guitar's album Use Your Words (out this week) they'll actually be able to watch, so perhaps you should wait 'til they're ready. (Perhaps you can even enter Jeremy Zmuda's contest and have Zmuda write a catchy tune about that very problem.)

NYC musician Jeremy Zmuda, AKA Jeremy Plays Guitar has his new album Use Your Words coming out Sept. 28th and while he's had some sound clips from the new album up for a little while, I think, the offer of a free track from the upcoming album is new. While the album features languorous Madeleine Peyroux on a track (not to mention Kirk Douglas from the Roots), the free track -- "Jump So High," featuring Joy Dragland on vocals -- is anything but languorous. Ska for the wee ones -- pick it up here.
