Video: "Hair" - fleaBITE

My choices for picking a new video from New Zealand band fleaBITE were this one for "Hair," about hair growth taken to extreme lengths, or this other one, "Don't Sit Under the Poo Tree," about, well, some sage advice. (Watch that video if you want to learn more.)

But, yes, I decided to go with the abnormally healthy follicles.  The song is from the band's 2011 debut album In Your Ear (the band's got a new album out, their third, called The Jungle Is Jumping this month). It's lyrics worthy of Shel Silverstein meeting the visuals worthy of Dr. Seuss. As combos go, that's a pretty good one.

Video: "Crew Cut" - Randy Kaplan

One of my favorite tracks from Randy Kaplan's fine album Jam on Rye was "Crew Cut," which details many hairstyles Kaplan had, dreamed of, or dismissed over his lifetime.  Like many of Kaplan's best songs, it's funny, literate, and a little bit wistful.

So I was glad to see that Kaplan enlisted the talents of animator Matt Kiel to create a video for the song, and the resulting video is just about a perfect match.  Hairstyles galore and a dead-simple concept.  Love it.

Video: "Haircut" - The Not-Its

Seattle's sartorially-superior schoolhouse rockers The Not-Its are releasing their fifth album Raise Your Hand in a couple weeks and judging by their brand new video for "Haircut" (premiered this morning over at USA Today's Pop Candy blog), they have chosen to not cut their hair until the album actually drops.  This will amuse the kids and parents for different reasons -- the kids for the silly hair, the adults for the silly... OK, it'll amuse 'em for the same reason.  (Is it churlish to wish they'd also thrown in a Pavement reference?)
