Marketplace of Ideas... and, er, CDs

As many of you know, for more than a year now my reviews here are also used at the Land of Nod's Music Store, which has a fine selection of music for the kiddoes (in addition to, you know, furniture). But I'm not monopolistic, so it's in that celebration of the marketplace that I'll point out that the kids music retailer The Pokey Pup (whose owner Bryan Townsend is a longtime -- two-year -- Fids and Kamily judge) is hosting a Summer Contest series of giveaways. Stuff from They Might Be Giants, Gustafer Yellowgold, Recess Monkey, Jellydots, and more. No purchase necessary -- go check it out. And, lest I forget the Land of Nod, you Father Goose fans will want to check out his recently-released Land of Nod Nodcast Podcast. It's definitely got a much more laid-back vibe than the others in the series, but I think his fans will dig it.

Contest: Win Dan Zanes' Nueva York! CD

We're all about sharing here, and now that I've finally gotten around to selecting a winner of the Lunch Money CD, it's time for something new. So, I've got a copy of Dan Zanes' fine, new, 99%-Spanish CD Nueva York! yours for the winning. All you have to do to enter is list your favorite non-English language song(s) (kids' or adult) in the comments below. I'll randomly select one entry to receive the CD. All entries due by 9 PM West Coast time Thursday night; one entry per person, please.

Reminder: Win Lunch Money's Silly Reflection!

Just a reminder, folks -- you can win a copy of Lunch Money's Silly Reflection album. All you have to do is go here by 9 PM west coast time tonight and suggest a name for Lunch Money's new album, scheduled to be released in January 2009. What's that, you say? You already own the CD? Well, then, enter so you might win a copy for that friend of yours who isn't sure about this whole "kids' music" thing. And if you don't already own the CD? You. Have. No. Excuse. Enter now.

Contest: Name The New Lunch Money Album!

If anticipation for a new album is represented by "E," awesomeness of most recent album is "A," and the amount of time since that most recent album is "T," then E = A * T. And for me there is no "E" higher in the kids music world right now than for the next Lunch Money album. Their first album, Silly Reflection (review), is a classic, filled with tiny songwriting gems. The album was released in late 2004, so when their new album is released on January 17, 2009, - the date they will appear on the band's website and first sell them at a show, according to the band - it will be a looong 4+ years between releases (and an entirely different kids' music landscape). Molly Ledford told me their tentative name for the album, saying it "captures the kind of kid-generated fun we are trying to salute in our songs," (and I agree, it does) but says the name's "not official." So here's where I -- or rather, you -- can provide Molly and the band some (unsolicited) help. And win a copy of their first album in the bargain.

Win A Free CD From Another Website. That's Sort of Mine!

So I've got a copy of Nettwerk's fine For The Kids Three! CD (review) to give away, courtesy of Nettwerk. There's just one catch -- I'm not giving it away here. Instead, go here and enter. In order to comment you'll need to sign up with Offsprung, but I promise promise promise, we're a very non-evil organization, even more (or less) so than Google. And we're tons of fun, too.

Contest Winner: The Top 50 Kids Songs of All Time

I know, I know, it took me way too long to figure out the winner of my "Top 50 Kids Songs of All Time Contest." Just waay too much to do... In any case, the rules specified that the winner had to identify my #1 song, which was... "Twinkle Twinkle/ABC/Baa Baa Black Sheep." Four people correctly pegged that song at #1, which meant I had to go to the next tiebreaker, which was correctly guessing other songs in my Top 5. Seeing as Ellen listed the same melody twice, I didn't think that counted, so the winner is... Clark, who also included "Miss Mary Mack" in his list. Congratulations to Clark, who is at the moment selecting his CD prize, and thanks to everyone for participating and reading!
